"El Greco" Sponsorship Program

Dear generous supporters of the Greek and Spanish communities in Houston,

El-Greco2014 marks the 400-th anniversary from the passing of the famous Greek painter Domenicos Theotokopoulos who thrived in Spain during the 16th century and lived the greatest part of his life. In order to commemorate the passing of this monumental painter the Faculty Senate of the University of Houston jointly with the Hellenic Cultural Center of the Southwest and under the auspices of the Consulates of Greece and Spain in Houston are organizing a mini symposium on October 18, 2014 at the University of Houston. The symposium will be held in the newly constructed state-of-the-art theater of the University Center of the University of Houston.

The main speaker of the event will be the Professor of Hispanic studies Maria Elena Solino who will present the main aspects of El Greco’s art work in Spain. The talk will be followed by a one-hour long reception and the showing off the Greek produced feature film “El Greco”. This is the first event that our two communities jointly organize in the City of Houston. We envision that this event will not only highlight the art and the life of the famous painter but it will underscore the strong links, political and cultural between our people and of our communities with the University of Houston.

We are actively seeking financial support in the form of donations or of sponsorship for this event. We anticipate an attendance at the order of 450 people many of whom will be University of Houston students. Since we do not want to charge an admission fee for students, staff or faculty and still be able to cover our expenses without having to charge a big admission fee, we kindly request your support or your sponsorship for the event. Financial sponsors, in-kind contributors and donors are most welcome and they will be mentioned in the program.

All Donations will be Tax Deductible (Letter will be send to each donor soon after the event with the necessary tax information)

We’re looking forward to hearing from you soon. You can send your contribution by check that can be mailed at:
