Dallas, TX & Houston, TX — As a proud member of the Hellenic Cultural Center of the Southwest, a distinguished federation dedicated to promoting Greek heritage, the Hellenic Cultural Society of Dallas joined its affiliate in Houston to celebrate the life and contributions of Nikos Gounaris, famously known as the quintessential Greek troubadour. These tribute events, held on the 10th and 11th of May in Dallas and Houston, gathered hundreds of Greek-Americans and aficionados of Hellenic culture to honor a man whose music deeply resonated with the Greek diaspora in America.

Nikos Gounaris, who enchanted the U.S. for 15 remarkable years, emerged as a cultural beacon among Greek expatriates with his poignant melodies and evocative lyrics. His unique ability to soothe sorrow and evoke deep nostalgia made him an iconic figure in Greek music. Gounaris's influence was profound and celebrated, earning him the title of ARCHON POLITIS by AHEPA, and distinction as the only Greek singer to be commemorated with a statue in Athens—a testament to his monumental influence on music and culture.

President of HCC-SW & his wife Dr. Christina Remediakis honored the General Secretary of Greeks abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Prof. Ioannis Chrysoulakis for his significant and enduring contribution to the World Hellenic Diaspora at Thessaloniki on the 4th of November 2021.

Speaking at the event, the President of the HCC-SW, Yannis Remediakis, referred to the multifarious action and the unwavering effort of Prof. Chrysoulakis not only to support the Omogenia and its institutions around the world, but also to rally and substantially reach out to its members, cultivating strong bonds of friendship and, on a practical level, through organizing conferences and events that unite representatives of the Diaspora representing various fields and professional spaces.

On Sunday, September 20, 2020, the International Greek Diaspora Online Event was organized with great success, by the General Secretariat of Public Diplomacy and Hellenes Abroad and the Hellenic Cultural Center of the Southwest (HCC-SW) via its project World Hellenic Diaspora, for the 2,500th  anniversary of the Battle Salamis. The event was attended online by 2,000 expatriates from around the world.

Speakers at the event were the Honorary Ambassador Dimitrios Iliopoulos, former EU Representative to the International Organizations in Geneva (UN), and The Hague and member of the Board of the Hellenic Institute for Strategic Studies (ELISME), and the Assistant Professor of Navy Mr. Zisis Fotakis. Greetings were addressed by the Secretary-General of Public Diplomacy and Hellenes Abroad, Prof. Ioannis Chrysoulakis, the President of HCC-SW, Mr. Yannis Remediakis, the expatriate State Senator of Rhode Island, Mr. Lou Raptakis, the expatriate State Senator, Ms. Nicole Malliotakis, and the Mayor of Salamis Mr. George Panagopoulos. It is worth noting that after the greetings and speeches, 16-year-old Tiffany Mezitis, a representative of the new generation of expatriates in the USA, developed her views on the importance of the historic Battle of Salamis today.

Διεθνής διαδικτυακή ομογενειακή εκδήλωση

για τα 2500 χρόνια της μάχης των Θερμοπυλών

Με μεγάλη επιτυχία πραγματοποιήθηκε το Σάββατο, 29 Αυγούστου, η Διεθνής Ομογενειακή Διαδικτυακή Εκδήλωση που διοργανώθηκε απότη Γενική Γραμματεία Δημόσιας Διπλωματίας και Απόδημου Ελληνισμού, το Ελληνικό Πολιτιστικό Κέντρο των Νοτιοδυτικών Πολιτειών και το Ελληνικό Ίδρυμα Πολιτισμού, για την επέτειο των 2500 ετών της μάχης των Θερμοπυλών.

Ομιλητές στην εκδήλωση ήταν ο Γενικός Γραμματέας Δημόσιας Διπλωματίας και Απόδημου Ελληνισμού, Ομότ. Καθ. Ιωάννης Χρυσουλάκης, ο Πρόεδρος του Ελληνικού Κέντρου Πολιτισμού των Νοτιοδυτικών Πολιτειών Αμερικής, κ. Γιάννης Ρεμεδιάκης, ο πρώην Πρέσβης της Ελληνικής Δημοκρατίας στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες και μέλος του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου του Ελληνικού Ιδρύματος Πολιτισμού, Αλέξανδρος Π. Μαλλιάς, ο Πρόεδρος του Ελληνικού Ιδρύματος Πολιτισμού, κ. Νίκος A. Κούκης και ο Πρόεδρος της Πανελλήνιας Ομοσπονδίας της Φλόριντα, κ. Μιχάλης Αλεξάνδρου.
